The Lansing State Journal came out strongly supportive of Michigan government transparency and accountability in a recent editorial headlined: “Open government is better government, Extend rather than limit public access to records.”
Kudos to the newspaper for its watchdog efforts covering this important issue now in the state Legislature.
With all the cutbacks in media coverage, it’s great to report that the hometown paper (for the executive branch, the Legislature and the courts) is committed to protecting the spirit of the Michigan Freedom of Information Act.
We hope journalists across the state will keep following this evolving story and also take a look at the efforts by the Legislature, at the urging of the State Court Administrative Office, to make access to historically open court files much more difficult and expensive.
